ResponsibilityCircular by Design The principles that guide the development of HortiPack packaging
As part of the ILPA Group, ILIP develops packaging solutions for the fruit, vegetable and horticultural sectors by applying design principles focused on the efficient use of resources, packaging recyclability, the use of recycled materials and material circularity, in compliance with applicable European legislation.
Innovation is one of the defining elements of our design approach. Every solution is developed by balancing functionality, product protection, efficient use of raw materials and end-of-life recyclability.
Reducing raw material use and promoting recycling
Reducing the use of raw materials and promoting recycling are two key principles guiding the development of HortiPack packaging.
Through downgauging, we reduce the weight and thickness of our packaging while maintaining the performance required for its intended applications. This approach helps optimise the use of resources and reduce raw material consumption.
At the same time, we develop packaging solutions designed to support recyclability and the use of recycled materials, helping to keep plastics within the production cycle.
Eco-design and material circularity
Eco-design is a guiding principle throughout the development of our packaging solutions.
Material selection, simplified packaging structures and a focus on recyclability enable us to develop solutions aligned with the principles of the circular economy and with the requirements of the different recycling streams.
Where applicable, the use of recycled materials also supports the reincorporation of secondary raw materials into the production of new packaging.
PET recycling and vertically integrated supply chain
The vertical integration of the R-PET supply chain within the ILPA Group enables us to manage the main stages of recycling post-consumer PET bottles and containers.
At the Group’s recycling facilities, recycled PET is processed into flakes that are used as raw material for the production of new packaging, according to a model based on the principles of the circular economy that helps keep recycled PET within the production cycle.
The ILPA Group has an annual PET recycling capacity of approximately 60,000 tonnes, contributing to the availability of secondary raw material for the production of new packaging.
